Air India’s Nonstop Flights to Take off for Los Angeles and Dallas This Year End

After a long wait, Air India is taking off for Dallas and Los Angeles, the new destinations in the US-India nonstop travel corridor. India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved nonstop Air India flights to Los Angeles in California, and Dallas in Texas from New Delhi starting December 1, 2024. Air India is yet to release Dallas to Delhi fare deals and Los Angeles to Delhi flight tickets through one of its associates, IndianEagle.com, the most-trusted travel booking partner of Indians in America.

The announcement of the tentative date for Air India flights to the new destinations in the United States came after the past two years of intensive preparations, such as fleet expansion, pilot training, enhanced inflight dining, customer service overhaul, new brand identity, digital upgrades, and baggage tracking feature. As of now, only Dallas-Fort Worth and Los Angeles are central to Air India’s US network expansion plans, while Seattle and Boston have been shelved for the time being.

Texas, which is home to the second-largest Indian-origin community in the US, has been a strong contender for nonstop air connectivity to India from Dallas or Houston for years. Currently, San Francisco is the only city having direct connectivity to Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru for a greater part of the Southwest US. Despite the best fare deals for San Francisco to India travel, catching Air India flights from SFO Airport is not viable for those residing in Texas. Undoubtedly, the highly anticipated Air India service to Dallas would fill the demand-supply gap.

Earlier, the petitions for direct flights between Texas and India had put Dallas and Houston at loggerheads. The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex being the most populous metropolitan area in Texas and housing the Asian Indian community of nearly 2.5 lakh individuals seems to have better prospects than Greater Houston for the Tata airline. The upcoming direct Dallas to India flights would benefit South Asians, including Indians from Houston, Austin, Arlington, and the neighboring states, such as New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas.

The past few years have seen South Asians, including Indians, gravitating to South California and populating the Greater Los Angeles Area. That is why Southern California has been seeing the numbers of Asian Indians on a modest rise in Los Angeles, Irvine and their vicinity – which promises a high demand for direct flights to India from Los Angeles International Airport. Indians residing in the Phoenix metropolitan area, Arizona would drive the demand, as Air India’s interline partner, Alaska Airlines would connect them to LAX for direct flights to India.

Dallas and Los Angeles among Air India’s new US destinations, are most likely to get weekly seven nonstop services as per the winter 2024 schedule authorized by DGCA. Initially, Air India may induct B777-300ERs (leased from Etihad Airways and Singapore Airlines) into service to these two new destinations in the US. These are well-equipped modern aircraft. We are yet to know whether B777-300ERs would be retrofitted with premium economy seats like Air India’s brand new A350s and ex-Delta B777-200LRs.

Hi! In our assumption, Seattle is in the queue. The nonstop connectivity from Los Angeles was long overdue. Of course, Boston being considered for nonstop travel to India is a surprise. We are sanguine Seattle and Dallas would get their share of nonstop air connectivity to India.

I fly from DFW to LHR onwards to MAA. Or via Colombo to TRV. Much more convenient that Qatar or Emirates with a 11 hour flight and couple of hours of break if you fly to Chennai directly from London.

If you fly Srilankan to Thiruvananthapuram or Kochi, the connection is at 9 pm or so and I usually get out to London to spend time. In Colombo Srilankan provides you with free hotel for overnight stay for connections to Thiruvananthapuram. For about $80 you can get a private tour of Colombo.

The service and food onboard Srilankan is excellent.

Chennai doesn’t even have a non stop Air India to Europe. Why does most flights have to fly out of Delhi. already several foreign airlines fly there. its not only they give so many choice for people flying to DEL. They also get a dicounted fares… fare are at least 200-300$ more to Chennai compared to DEL/BOM/BLR.

Air India needs to fly at least a non stop to Europe(From MAA) now .. right now.. to begin at least few times a week if not daily.. United or other Star alliance partner can connect. Kindly request IndiaEagle to forward this request.

Los Angeles provides a much higher yield in Business Class, where airlines make money. The economy class is not a money spinner for any airline. Los Angeles is historically more affluent and willing to spend money on a flight ticket than areas such TX.

Europe airlines choices are not enough. already lot of foreign airlines other than EK/QR fly to Delhi. Air india also keeps flying more to non stops to Europe and US Del.
with less choices flights to Chennai cost $200-300 more than Delhi. Kindly request India Eagle to request non stop at least few times a week to (begin with) to Europe so that families can see a little relief on the flight fare.

Air India needs direct flights (no stops and/or layovers) from LAX to Delhi and LAX to Mumbai. These are long way overdue. A Consulate General opening in Los Angeles would be amazing too. The one up in San Francisco is miserable to deal with. I hope with Tata’s purchase of Air India these flights will be much more pleasant. It will cut travel time by at least 8-10 hours if they have these direct flights as switching planes in Asia, Europe or the Middle East will not be necessary anymore.

Any chances Air India to start services from LAX, Seattle to Mumbai as well? (Thanx AI, for SFO – BOM service). It’s given that any new Air India service starts and terminates in Delhi and Delhi alone. If it’s going to be one stop through Delhi then MEast3, British, SIA, Turkish, KLM or other carriers are going to be just fine. Air India has to give up on a single Delhi hub strategy. Travelers from Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai or any other major city are looking for direct Nonstop Air India flights as a key service differentiator. A350s (especially A350-1000s) may be too big for some routes to offer nonstop services but luckily AI has 787-9s and even 788s. I hope the new Air India starts with a new vision. Thank you.

Delhi cant beat Dubai or Doha as a transit hub. A better strategy for AI would have been to start these direct flights from more Indian cities with high load factors such as Bangalore and Hyderabad, at least few days a week. Instead of daiy flights from Delhi, it can be 3 days from DEL, 3 from BLR, 2 from BOM and 2 from HYD. Except for Delhiites, it will still be a one stop flight for people in other Indian cities, which middle eastern carriers also offer.

Tired of hearing about Non stop flights from India to Dallas. Neither the Indian government Air India or the Tata Air India give a firm dates. The slowness in starting this service make the Gulf carriers swallowing the highly potential Indian Aviation market. According to the survey, at least 800 pax are travelling daily between Dallas and India, mainly to the cities of Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. It is very disappointing why Indian carriers are not keen to touch this area of potential revenue. Can any of the Indian airlines (Air India or Indigo) give a most practical date of starting the Non stop service to Dallas? Believe me, its long long overdue.
